Blend & Bottle your own wine at Slanghoek
There are wine regions that get all the attention – and then there are the ones that let the valley speak for themselves.
I first encountered the Breedekloof Valley years ago, on a press trip for a Soetes and Soup event, and it has stayed with me ever since. Raw, beautiful and almost stubbornly under the radar – the kind of place that makes you wonder why everyone isn't talking about it.
And they should be.
Slanghoek Wine Cellar sits at the heart of it, and what they're offering this year is the kind of experience that is genuinely difficult to find anywhere on the Cape wine route – the chance to blend and bottle your own wine.
This is not another pairing, another afternoon of nodding politely at tasting notes you'll have forgotten by the drive home. This is hands in it – working with different varietals, arguing with your own palate, making something from scratch – and walking away with a bottle that is entirely, unapologetically yours.
Sessions run on select Saturdays throughout 2026, are capped at 25 people, and cost R200 per person – which includes the tutored session and one personalised bottle of your finished wine. It's the kind of afternoon that works beautifully for a group of friends, a birthday, or simply something different from the usual wine route routine.
Remaining dates for 2026: 16 August and 7 November. Booking is essential.
